Artist: Steven Mark Holland

Site Number: 75

Materials: Bronze

Artist Statement: Ravens are intelligent and commanding birds, and their presence often demands attention. Holland reflects on fleeting moments of observation — seeing ravens in flight as dark voids cut from the sky.

These bronze sculptures depict a pair of ravens perched on traffic cones, or “witches’ hats”, drawing on the artist’s experience of collecting and studying a raven found on the roadside. The work considers how these birds might perceive the distorted sound and movement of passing traffic, exploring the intersection between wildlife and human environments.
